Reflecting on staff experiences: Oakdene Hollins end-of-summer-social karaoke extravaganza!
As we celebrate our achievements in the first half of the year, the staff at Oakdene Hollins found an excuse to party last week. We hosted our much-anticipated end-of-summer social event, filled with laughter, music, and a touch of mischief. But what made this year's gathering truly unforgettable was the birthday celebration of a very special team member…
Buzzing with expectation of a good night. It wasn't just any regular social; it was also a milestone birthday for our colleague, Helen. Let's just say that the number represented a not-so-subtle transition into a new decade. To add an extra dose of intrigue, our planning team decided to make the event karaoke-themed – a chance for everyone to let loose and showcase their hidden talents.
The evening kicked off with an array of delectable snacks and refreshing beverages, setting the stage for an evening full of joy and camaraderie. Colleagues (and some former colleagues) mingled, bonding over previously unknown but shared hobbies and tales from recent events around Europe. There was a sense of unity and joviality that can only come from stepping outside the shared expectations around our daily working lives.
As the clock struck 8:30 pm, the venue transformed into a dazzling karaoke paradise with Rob kicking off the show with ‘R.E.S.P.E.C.T’. With a vast collection of songs from various genres, there was something to cater to every musical taste. From pop to rock, R&B to country, our team members took turns belting out their favourite tunes – some with incredible talent, and others with just a touch of enthusiasm.
One standout performance came from our very own Helen, the guest of honor. Though initially a bit hesitant, she quickly found her groove as she flawlessly channeled her inner rockstar, much to the delight of the crowd. Her performance of a classic Abba tune Money Money Money (with the finance team), earning her a well-deserved round of applause and a place in the Oakdene Hollins karaoke hall of fame.
But the fun didn't stop there. As the night progressed, laughter and cheerful banter filled the air. Some team members took the stage multiple times, determined to showcase their range of vocal talents. Even the most reluctant seemed to get swept along and added their voice to the showtime.
As the evening drew to a close, there was a sense of collective contentment. The Oakdene Hollins summer social had achieved its goal of creating lasting memories (and regretfully some video evidence) as well as nurturing the spirit of togetherness among colleagues.
