Innovate: It's what we do

Research, innovation, collaboration, networking and... monitoring. These are the fundamentals of what we do and how we do it.

Oakdene Hollins has been a champion of resource efficiency since its foundation in 1994.  Since that time, we have worked directly with industrial and public sector clients to minimise our generation’s waste of resources in the manufacture and consumption of ‘stuff’. In addition, through the provision of assessment and monitoring services to Innovate UK, we have been closely involved in leading edge research and development of technologies that are contributing to more efficient ways of doing things.

Through part funding, Innovate UK provides incentives for private companies and academia to accelerate complex collaborative research projects. Such projects carry high technical and financial risk. Our assessment and monitoring role is to manage that risk, by ensuring that UK taxpayer’s money is being spent wisely, and correctly, whilst also supporting the project teams in achieving their objectives.

Over some 15 years Oakdene Hollins has directly monitored more than 100 projects across almost every industrial sector in the UK, including agriculture, mining, construction, automotive, energy, information and communication, food and drink, biotechnology and aerospace. We have worked with major players, such as Astra Zeneca, Imerys, Jaguar Land Rover, Johnson Matthey, Rolls Royce, Proctor & Gamble and Unilever, as well as many smaller companies and with the leading UK universities.

Many of the project outcomes have been quickly commercialised and are providing strong support to UK industry’s competitive edge globally. Others are ‘feasibility studies’ which are developing leading edge enabling technologies for future exploitation.

We are continuing our work with Innovate UK and strongly support such programmes to structure and exploit innovations in resource efficiency. The insights we have gained help both Innovate UK focus its future funding and spin-off directly into the possible collaborations and technologies of benefit to companies we work with.
